Project Description:
In this infographic project, I explored the fascinating relationship between gender and whisky culture. Through detailed research on a whisky brand, I uncovered intriguing facts about whisky production and the historical roles of different genders. Traditionally regarded as a "man's drink," whisky is now embraced by growing communities of women who challenge this stereotype.
I also delved into the significant yet often overlooked influence of women on alcohol production, tracing their contributions back to ancient Mesopotamia where they pioneered brewing. Throughout history, female entrepreneurs have founded some of the most iconic whiskey distilleries, many of which remain global leaders today. Despite these achievements, distilling has largely remained a male-dominated industry.
With this project, my aim was not only to educate viewers about the intricate process of whisky-making but also to highlight the instrumental role women have played in shaping distilled spirits over the centuries. I hope to inspire a gender-conscious rethinking of the industry's history and future direction, advocating for the return of women to leadership roles in a sector where their legacy remains strong, even if their presence has diminished.
